Mennonite College of Nursing (MCN) Strategic Initiative Fund

The Mennonite College of Nursing (MCN) Strategic Initiative Fund provides support for the highest priority initiatives, including named commemorative scholarships and awards, outlined by the Mennonite College of Nursing's strategic plan.

Mennonite College of Nursing Endowed Transcultural Fund

This fund was created by professors Karrie Ingalsbe and Lynn Kennell as a part of the University’s first comprehensive campaign in 2002, and became an endowed fund in 2005. The transcultural nursing program began in 1972, and this fund provides the first effort to provide a source of on-going support for the program including support for faculty and student travel to participate in transcultural exchanges. Assets of this endowment are invested in the Illinois State University Endowment Investment Pool. This permanently endowed fund was established in 2005 with assistance from the steering committee of the Friends of Mennonite College of Nursing (FMCN). The FMCN recognize the innovative technological needs of the College of Nursing. The purpose of this technology fund is to help insure that the expanding technological needs and technological support personnel of MCN are met. Assets of this endowment are invested in the Illinois State University Endowment Investment Pool. Watkins Lamb Student Leader Scholarship Fund

Each candidate for a Watkins-Lamb Student Leadership Scholarship should meet the following qualifications: A. Enrolled as a student in good standing who has completed the junior year in the traditional pre-Iicensure nursing program at Illinois State University's Mennonite College of Nursing. B. Demonstration of academic achievement, as evidenced by a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.25. C. Demonstration of leadership through service as a student leader at MCN (i.e. Student Nurses Association officer, Peer Support Person, Nursing Peer Tutors, etc.) D. When possible, preference should be given to an MCN student leader who also assumes a role in University -wide activities.

Mennonite College of Nursing Friends

The Mennonite College of Nursing Friends Fund was established in 1994. The Fund supports activities, programs and operations associated with the Mennonite College of Nursing.

Mennonite Nurses Alumni Association Endowed Scholarship

The fund was established by the Alumni Association Board at ISU in 1999, and was established originally at the Mennonite College of Nursing in 1981. The purpose of the fund is to promote academic excellence and to eliminate financial barriers that might otherwise prevent enrollment of highly qualified students. Additionally, this fund exists to assist students who participate in the Nursing Transcultural Program. Assets of this endowment are invested in the Illinois State University Endowment Investment Pool. The fund was established by the Alumni Association Board at ISU in 1999, and was established originally at the Mennonite College of Nursing in 1981. The purpose of the fund is to promote academic excellence and to eliminate financial barriers that might otherwise prevent enrollment of highly qualified students. Additionally, this fund exists to assist students who participate in the Nursing Transcultural Program.

Mennonite College of Nursing Board Endowment for Clinical Labs

This fund was established in 2005 to provide funds to improve the nursing clinical laboratories at Illinois State University, insuring the faculty and students have the equipment necessary to prepare the preferred graduate. Assets of this endowment are invested in the Illinois State University Endowment Investment Pool. This fund was established in 2005 as the Mennonite College of Nursing Endowment for Clinical Labs to provide funds to improve the nursing clinical laboratories at Illinois State University. In November of 2011 an administrative agreement was signed and a new name, the Mennonite College of Nursing Clinical Simulation and Education Excellence Fund, was created. The purpose of the fund is to meet the needs of the highest priority initiatives within the clinical education components of the nursing curriculum, especially with regards to simulation education as determined by the dean of the department. Endowment assets are invested in the Illinois State University Foundation's long-term investment pool.

Mennonite College of Nursing Alumni Association Endowment

This fund provides ongoing support to Mennonite College of Nursing alumni organization activities, events, mailings and other expenses as approved by the dean of the College of Nursing. Assets of this endowment are invested in the Illinois State University Endowment Investment Pool. Rolla and Christine Six Sorrells and Sylvan Six Emergency Fund

The Rolla and Christine Six Sorrells and Sylvan Six Emergency Fund has been established to provide financial assistance to nursing students who may find themselves in a circumstance where extra funds would help them deal with a temporary situation that would prevent them from completing their current semester of study at Illinois State University. The fund is designed to meet a short-term financial need. Applicants must be currently enrolled in the Mennonite College of Nursing at Illinois State University. Funds will be awarded on a need basis only.

Betty and Ron Kinser Endowed Scholarship Fund

Betty and Ron Kinser joined the Illinois State University family in 1965 after Ron became a candidate for a Master of Science degree in English. Ron earned his master's in 1966 and Betty earned her bachelor's and master's degrees from Illinois State University in Art Education in 1973 and 1975. After teaching in public school for a few years, Betty joined the faculty at Illinois State as a lecturer in 1977 in the Wonsook Kim College of Fine Arts. Betty served the College in many roles until she retired in 2005. Betty was appointed to serve as a Trustee of Illinois State University in 2006. During the course of their retirement, Betty and Ron were both positively impacted by the care and treatment received while patients at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center following a period of separate illnesses. The constant presence of Illinois State nurses during their treatments is what inspired the family to create the Ron and Betty Kinser Endowed Scholarship for Nursing Students.

Mary J. Dyck Endowed Scholarship in Gerontological Nursing

The Mary J. Dyck Endowed Scholarship in Gerontological Nursing was established in 2021 by Mary Dyck and Brenda Johnson. The scholarship supports PhD students enrolled in good standing with the Mennonite College of Nursing with a research focus on older adults or leadership with older adults. In the event there are no PhD students with a research focus on older adults, then a Doctor of Nursing Practice student with a research focus on older adults would be acceptable.

Joslin Scholarship Fund

This endowment was established in 1999 by Roger and Stephany Joslin. The Joslin scholarships are awarded to exemplary undergraduate or graduate students enrolled in or admitted to Mennonite College of Nursing. Assets of this endowment are invested in the Illinois State University Endowment Investment Pool. The Joslin Scholarship was established in 1999 by Roger and Stephany Joslin. Anna Ropp Endowed Scholarship

The Anna Ropp Scholarship Fund was created in 2004 and funded initially with birthday gifts given in celebration of Ann's 100th birthday, and later with memorial gifts given by friends and family. The sons of Ann Ropp completed the endowment through family gifts. Each candidate for this scholarship must be enrolled in good standing at ISU, demonstrate academic achievement, as evidenced by a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, and demonstrate financial need. Preference will be given to non-traditional nursing students in their junior or senior year, participating in the RN/BSN or equivalent program, or to a graduate student who demonstrates concern for body, mind, and spiritual aspects of nursing. Assets of this endowment are invested in the Illinois State University Endowment Investment Pool. Ann Ropp was raised in Missouri and left home in 1927 to enroll in the Mennonite Hospital School of Nursing in Bloomington, Illinois. A non-traditional student, Ann had already worked for several years before attending nursing school. Ann worked for the Mennonite Hospital for 22 years. When Ann retired in the early 1970's, healthcare was beginning to undergo major changes. Some say that the Hospital had to hire 7 nurses to replace the energy, skill, care, and experience that Ann provided. She continued to volunteer until she was in her late 90's, as a charter member of the BroMenn Service Auxiliary. The Anna Ropp Scholarship Fund was created in 2004. It was initially funded with birthday gifts given in celebration of Anna's 100th birthday and later with memorial gifts given by friends and family.

Kay B. Wilson Endowed Scholarship for Students in the Dual Enrollment Program

The Kay B. Wilson Endowed Scholarship for Students in the Dual Enrollment Program was established in 2019 by Kay Wilson. The scholarship supports up to two students annually who are enrolled in the Mennonite College of Nursing Dual Enrollment Program.

Marie Yoder Scholarship Endowment Fund MCN

The Marie Yoder Scholarship was established in 1998 by Marie Yoder through the BroMenn Foundation to be used for scholarships for nursing students at Mennonite College of Nursing. Marie Yoder, a 1935 graduate of Mennonite Hospital School of Nursing, established the scholarship fund for the purposes of promoting clinical nursing excellence and supporting students demonstrating outstanding nursing skills along with acceptable academic achievement. Assets of this endowment are invested in the Illinois State University Endowment Investment Pool. The Marie Yoder Scholarship was established in 1998 by Marie Yoder through the BroMenn Foundation to be used for scholarships for nursing students at Mennonite College of Nursing. Marie Yoder, a 1935 graduate of Mennonite Hospital School of Nursing, established the scholarship fund for the purposes of promoting clinical nursing excellence and supporting students demonstrating outstanding nursing skills along with acceptable academic achievement.

Dr. Nancy Ridenour Compassion Fund

The Dr. Nancy Ridenour Compassion Fund was established in 2019 by Drake Zimmerman. The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarships to nursing students enrolled in the Mennonite College of Nursing's Accelerated BSN program, initially established by Dr. Nancy Ridenour.

William and Nancy Yarger Nursing Success Scholarship

The William and Nancy Yarger Nursing Success Scholarship was established in 2020. The annual scholarship will support and promote nursing students who demonstrate leadership potential through their involvement in the University's ROTC program and/or a student who intends to work in an area of greatest need. In the event there are no MCN students involved in ROTC, preference will then be given to nursing students who demonstrate leadership potential as demonstrated by an interest in pursuing a career in an area of greatest need as determined by the Mennonite College of Nursing.

Emily Anne Fredbloom Memorial Endowed Scholarship

The Emily Anne Fredbloom Memorial Endowed Scholarship was established in 2015 by Bruce and Leigh Anne Fredbloom in memory of their daughter, Emily, who passed away in September 2014. The purpose of the scholarship is to support a Mennonite College of Nursing student who is enrolled in good standing and expected to complete all requirements for a degree in nursing within 12 months. Emily Anne Fredbloom graduated cum laude from Mennonite College of Nursing (MCN) in May 2010. Emily was described by friends and co-workers as having a bubbly, bouncy personality with a smile that could light up any room. Her family wanted to continue her good works and hopefully relieve a little stress of other dedicated nursing students by providing assistance to future Mennonite College of Nursing students who embrace Emily's passion for life, nursing, and those she cared for.

Eric Tapley, BSN Heartland Emergency Specialist, LLC Endowed Scholarship

Eric Tapley was recruited to Illinois State University to play football. He was a three-year starter, graduated in 1983 with a degree in physical education, and received a B.S. in nursing in 1997 from Mennonite College of Nursing. Eric pursued a career in emergency nursing at Advocate BroMenn Regional Emergency Department in Normal, OSF Saint Francis Emergency Department in Peoria, and OSF Saint Joseph Emergency Department in Bloomington. He was a wonderful, cherished emergency nurse who helped save hundreds of lives. Eric also founded the Nothin' but the Blues Fest in Bloomington-Normal, and he was involved in many community organizations and boards. The Eric Tapley BSN--Heartland Emergency Specialists, LLC Scholarship was established in 2010 by Dr. Thomas Nielsen and Dr. Kathryn Bohn in Eric's honor. The scholarship provides financial support for Mennonite College of Nursing students at Illinois State University.

Helen K. Vercler Endowed Scholarship

Donors are establishing an endowed scholarship in memory of mother and wife Helen K. Vercler, a longtime nurse who compassionately cared for patients in long-term care.

Helen Tuxhorn Evans Scholarship

This endowment was established in 1988 by the daughters of Helen Tuxhorn Evans, a 1938 graduate of Mennonite College of Nursing. The scholarship is awarded to a graduate or undergraduate student enrolled in Mennonite College of Nursing. Assets of this endowment are invested in the Illinois State University Endowment Investment Pool. The Helen Tuxhorn Evans Scholarship was established in 1988 by the daughters of Helen Tuxhorn Evans, a 1938 graduate of Mennonite College of Nursing. The scholarship is awarded to a graduate or undergraduate student enrolled in Mennonite College of Nursing.

Coletta Kintzle Memorial Scholarship

The Coletta Kintzle Memorial Scholarship was established in 2015 by Kurt and Joyce Moser in memory of Joyce's mother.The scholarship provides an annual full tuition award for a junior or senior accepted for enrollment or enrolled in good standing in Mennonite College of Nursing at Illinois State University. Students must demonstrate high personal standards, high integrity, and desire to treat all humans, especially vulnerable humans they encounter throughout their nursing careers, with dignity and respect.

Larry David Lane II Scholarship

The Larry David Lane II Scholarship was established In 2020 by Merry Anne (Tudy) Schmied to honor the memory of her nephew Larry David Lane II. The scholarship provides financial assistance to a nursing student enrolled in the Mennonite College of Nursing. Preference given to a student who plans to work in the area of oncology and/or pediatrics.

Ralph and Louise Bellas Endowed Scholarship

The Ralph and Louise Bellas Endowed Scholarship was established in 2015 by Ralph and Louise Bellas to assist students wanting to participate in international nursing exchanges, where they could experience medical technology, treatment, and patient care within different culture settings. Ralph Bellas joined ISU's English Department in 1965. During the 1970s, he served as director for three student groups to Brighton, England, in the international exchange program. Among his publications is Mennonite College of Nursing 1985-1995: The Flame Burns Brightly. Prior to coming to Mennonite School of Nursing, Louise Bellas practiced nursing in several U.S. cities. Public health nursing was her area of interest and expertise. She taught at Mennonite from 1972 to 1985. She was in England in 1974 to arrange an international student exchange program between Mennonite and the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton. After retiring, Ralph and Louise served in the U.S. Peace Corps in Fiji, where Louise taught at the Fiji School of Nursing and Ralph taught at the University of the South Pacific. Louise passed away in 2022, and Ralph in 2023.

The Linda Messamore Smith Scholarship

The Linda Messamore Smith Scholarship was established in 2022 by Gerald W. Smith Jr. and family and friends in memory of Linda Messamore Smith to provide support for a nursing student who has an interest in cancer treatment/oncology.

Kim Astroth Graduate Support Fund

The Kim Astroth Graduate Support Fund was established by Dr. Kim Astroth in 2023 to support graduate students in the Mennonite College of Nursing.
