Barbara (Schonert) Benway Endowed Scholarship in Art Education
Barbara received her bachelor's degree in art education from Illinois State University in 1950. It is here that she met her future husband. She felt that the education she received here was excellent and remembers her professors as caring individuals. They expanded her horizons further than she ever thought possible. After graduation she became an art teacher and taught in Downers Grove and Elmhurst during her 37 years as an art instructor. She retired in 1987. Though she and her husband never had any children, they felt it was important to put their money toward something that would help young people to reach their goals in a university that gave her and her husband so much. The purpose of this scholarship is to give art students assistance with their educational expenses.
